Piping & Materials Section Head – Client of Five Continents in Abu Dhabi
Key Accountabilities: Strategic Contribution: Â· Support the Department Manager in the development of short-term and mid-term strategic objectives, goals and plans of Mechanical Engineering Department. Â· Monitor the actual performance of the department vs. the approved operational plan and ensure timely reporting of same to the management with corrective action plans when required. Budget: Â· Support the Department Manager in preparing the capital & operating budgets for Mechanical Engineering Department to facilitate its operations while monitoring the financial performance versus the budget. Â· Identify areas of unsatisfactory performance and suggest corrective action for prompt rectification so as to capitalize upon potential performance improvement opportunities. Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures: Â· Lead the development, periodical amendment/revision as applicable and implementation of Mechanical Engineering Departmentâ€™s Functions, Procedures and Manuals in line with INDUSTRY best practice standards. Direction of Subordinates: Â· Organise and supervise the activities and work of subordinates in Piping and Materials Section, allocate resources, set tasks and targets, motivate staff to maximize potential, monitor performance, provide direction and assist staff. People Management: Â· Supports Department Manager by setting individual targets for engineers in Piping and Materials Section, developing and motivating staff, mentoring and providing of formal and informal feedback and appraisal â€“ in order to maximize subordinate and department performance and sharing/transfer knowledge. Engineering & Design Operations: Â· Direct and oversee Design and Development activities, detailed engineering activities pertaining to Piping Layout /Pipeline Routing, Material Selection, Corrosion and Inspection disciplines performed by engineering contractors engaged for FEED & EPC contracts to ensure standards set by COMPANY are met. Â· Manage and co-ordinate the discipline activities within Piping & Materials Section ensuring the technical integrity of designs undertaken by engineers in Piping and Materials Section. Â· Provide guidance and leadership in technical matters and to ensure that his section engineers are aware of and are working to current engineering standards and procedures. Â· Direct and oversee, review of critical drawings, technical documents, specifications, standards, technical evaluations/bid tabulations, Inspection & Test Procedures, Inspection and Test Plans, Material Selection Diagrams, Material Selection Guides, award recommendations prepared by Contractors for the projects as and when required. Â· Direct and oversee participation of Piping & Materials Section Engineers as and when required in various review sessions (viz.P&ID, Model review, Pre-Inspection Meeting, Source Inspection, Performance Tests and other integrity reviews) and ensure study recommendations are implemented. Â· Ensure Value Engineering applications and cost effective solutions are incorporated at all stages of project execution. Â· Ensure that discipline project files are prepared and maintained in accordance with COMPANY project procedures. Specifications & Standards: Â· Direct and oversee periodic reviews and updating (as and when required) of the Company Design General Specifications (DGS) pertaining to Piping/Pipeline, Corrosion/Metallurgy, Materials and Inspection discipline covering all aspects of project activities and ensure changes and relevant reference to industry standards, codes of practice and procedures are regularly updated. Â· Oversee and maintain the collation and maintenance of a data base of lessons learnt from various projects and support the Department Manager in the evaluation of technology advances and best practices followed in the industry for proposing improvement in design standards.
