Senior Coordinator Online and Mobile Communication
The Online and Mobile Communication Coordinator for the College manages, coordinates and enables the publishing of material for the various student media outlets for the College of Communication and Media Sciences.
The OMC Coordinator serves as Web Manager for Zajel – student media outlet – ensures the Zajel web site functions as an outlet for student content for the College and works with faculty and students to ensure that the site is coordinated and characterized by creativity and utility. Zajel includes, but is not limited to College news articles, College integrated strategic communications pieces, College visual communication media, College tourism pieces, College Arabic pieces, Zayed Student Radio, globalization support materials, the du Lab space and associated multimedia, the Zayed University Middle East Film Festival space and associated multimedia, Escapade magazine online, ZU TV and select electronic newsletters.
The OMC Coordinator manages all WordPress development, upgrades and purchases for Zajel and College ePortfolios, trains and supports College faculty, staff and students in the effective and efficient use of Zajel and College ePortfolios in support of ACEJMC accreditation requirements to the local community, the University and the College.
The OMC Coordinator is the ePortfolio Coordinator and establishes, coordinates and manages the development of student e-portfolios beginning with training in COM 210 Media Storytelling I and culminating in a fully portable, internally and/or externally evaluated ePortfolio in COM 490 Internship.
The OMC Coordinator facilitates College projects such as TEDx, ZUMEFF and faculty ePortfolio development, and may teach production courses in support of Zajel as needed.
The OMC Coordinator is the College Web Manager and manages the College pages on the Zayed University website and the College web presence on the Internet ensuring up-to-date content is published to meet and maintain ACEJMC accreditation standards.
-Responds to direction and supervision of the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans of the College
o Serves as a member of the College Educational Technology Committee
-Advocates the efficient, effective and innovative use of digital technology in the fulfillment of the College mission
-Improves College communication by integrating social media, SMS, e-mail and other communication technologies as they develop
-Promotes communication among faculty members regarding the creative use of technology in their classrooms
-Stays aware of needs, opportunities, trends in digital technology within the ZU community
-Updates and maintains the College web presence as well as the College pages on the Zayed University site as needed, especially with regard to ACEJMC updates and faculty profile management
• Student Media
-Serves as a member of the Student Media Editorial
o Ensures that the College goals related to student media are met
-Coordinates and enables publication of content selected by individual College faculty advisors from outlets including but not limited to classes, Zayed Student Radio, ZU Student TV, Escapade magazine, and Arabic communications courses and distributes said media to the College server for Zajel student media outlet
-Works with College faculty to encourage College students to produce content for Zajel
-Develops, upgrades, maintains the physical hardware: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP and other server softer and modules
-Purchases, develops, upgrades, backs up and maintains WordPress and associated plugins
-Teaches production classes in the College: for example, COM 311 or COM 312 ZU Media Lab I and II in support of Zajel as needed
-Trains and supports students and faculty in the use of WordPress for ePortfolios
-Establishes, manages and implements the ePortfolio project in the College
-Assures that students begin the e-portfolio development process in COM 210 and follow it through in various other COM courses and finalize it in the senior year in COM 490
-Ensures that all College students have a basic training session in ePortfolio creation and design
-Supports the process of ePortfolio development by teaching short refresher/reminder workshops throughout the College curriculum
-Pursues establishment of mandatory meetings with 3rd and 4th year students
-Works with College Assessment Committee to establish and maintain ePortfolio evaluation protocol in pursuit of ACEJMC accreditation
